What the UAE actually requires
Products in regulated categories must be registered under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS) before they clear customs. The Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) goes further and is a licence to carry the mark on the product itself.
Where management system certification fits
ISO 9001 is not a legal requirement for import, but Gulf distributors and government tenders ask for it as a condition of supply. For food, buyers generally expect ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000; for medical devices, ISO 13485.
Free zone or mainland
Free zone entities face the same product conformity rules when goods enter the domestic market. Certification scope should name the sites the certificate is meant to cover.
Will an Indian certificate be accepted here?
Yes, where it is issued by a body accredited under the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement. Signatories accept each other's accredited certificates, so a certificate issued in India is recognised in United Arab Emirates without re-auditing.
